Voices of Hope World AIDS Day Concert
The Vancouver concert takes place at Christ Church Cathedral on the corner of West Georgia and Burrard (accessible ramp at southeast entrance). Doors open at 7pm. Admission by donation; Dr. Peter Ambassadors are invited to attend free of charge.
Since 2008, three of Canada’s leading HIV/AIDS organizations – Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, La Maison du Parc, and Casey House – have partnered together to collaboratively produce the National World AIDS Day Concerts: Voices of Hope/Voix D’Espoir in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto.
In 2010, each concert was hosted by CBC personalities – Bill Richardson in Vancouver, Kelly Rice in Montreal and Tom Allen in Toronto. The associated publicity and promotions drew national attention to the issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, including the need for support of people living with HIV/AIDS, an understanding of the struggles and barriers they face, as well as the need for ongoing health care, education, and prevention initiatives.
The 2011 concerts will take place on Thursday, December 1 and offer an incredible evening of remembrance and celebration. The 2010 concerts were sponsored nationally by MAC AIDS Fund, ViiV Healthcare, Merck, Gilead, The Globe and Mail, and CBC. Performances in Vancouver included Dr. Peter’s Affirmation by the Vancouver Men’s Chorus marking the 20th Anniversary of the Dr. Peter Diaries, along with Will Blunderfield, Linda Lee Thomas, Kunaka Marimba and The North Shore Celtic Ensemble.
